Online Chat Community Guidelines

Talking to a stranger on camera only works when both people feel at ease. These rules apply to every video call, live stream, message and profile.

Who can use Online Chat

Everyone on Online Chat must be at least 18 years old, as a guest or with an account. The rules on this page apply to you and to whoever you are talking to.

Removed straight away

  • Anything involving a person under 18. Removed at once and reported to the authorities.
  • Explicit content. Calls, live streams and messages stay non-explicit.
  • Recording the other person, screenshotting them, or passing any part of a chat on.
  • Threats and pressure, including pushing someone for money, photos or contact details elsewhere.

Suspended or removed if it happens again

  • Harassment: insults, intimidation, or carrying on after someone has said no.
  • Hate aimed at who someone is.
  • Pretending to be someone else, including using another person's photos.
  • Selling, advertising and recruiting. If the goal is to send people somewhere else, it doesn't belong here.
  • A fake camera: a still picture or a camera pointed away wastes the other person's time.

Profiles and nicknames

  • Your own face. Profile photos must be of you, and not of anyone else or of a celebrity.
  • No contact details. Phone numbers, other app handles and links don't belong in a nickname, a profile or a message.
  • Nothing explicit or hateful in names, photos or descriptions.

Money and gifts

Calls are paid with coins inside Online Chat, and live streams can receive gifts. Asking anyone for money, gift cards or payment outside Online Chat is not allowed, whoever is asking. Neither is pressuring someone to spend: gifts are always optional.

Next is not rude

Moving on is part of chatting with strangers. Pressing Next or ending a call needs no explanation, for either person. What matters is how you behave while you are in the chat.

Live streams

The same rules apply in a live stream's chat. Be kind to the host and to other viewers, keep it non-explicit, and don't post links or contact details.

What happens after a report

A person reviews every report. Depending on what happened, an account can be suspended or removed, and a new account opened to get around a removal is removed as well. If you think a decision was a mistake, see Help. The formal version of these rules is in the Terms of Service.
